Abstract:
The author argues that Hebrew language education is of paramount importance to all other aspects of Jewish education, especially connection to Israel. She further asserts that the Jewish community (particularly congregational schools) has not insisted enough upon high standards for teaching Hebrew. The author offers specific suggestions for integrating Hebrew and connection to Israel into the learning experience, including hiring Israeli teachers, and programs utilizing arts, food, culture, meeting Israeli students, and video curriculum additions.
