Abstract:
The author recounts the development of the phenomenon of "year in Israel" yeshiva/seminary study programs for high school graduates which have become dominant for modern Orthodox Jews in America. He traces the movement from its original conception through its rise to success, and its continued strength despite concerns during times of war and unrest in the region.
