Abstract:
For recent immigrants and refugees, life is a series of challenges, according to focus groups conducted on RWJF's behalf between May 2004 and March 2005 in 10 cities across the United States. Contributing social factors include the type and quality of education available to these new residents; the lack of secure jobs; isolation, prejudice and discrimination; and cultural differences that may deter them from seeking and receiving services. This report identifies actions that could help immigrants and refugees overcome these challenges and lead healthy, happy and productive lives in their new country.
