This report studies the 336 firearm suicides that occurred in California during the period of 1997–1999 that involved persons under the age of 21. It finds that the gun used was most often owned by the victim or a family member living in the victim’s household. The study also discusses prevention efforts that should focus on gun ownership and accessibility.
