Abstract:

The authors present data on the religious beliefs and behavior of American college faculty. They argue that the religious beliefs and behaviors of faculty are not only relevant to their own teachings and scholarship, but also affect those with whom they interact. This study explores not only how faculty approach religion in their lives, but also how they regard the religion of others. Among the major findings of this study are: that religious identity, political beliefs, and political behavior are highly associated and that religious identity and behavior strongly influence how faculty view American foreign policy, business institutions, and the role of the United States in global affairs.

This monograph is the second volume of a series on college faculty. The first was entitled The Political Beliefs and Behavior of University Faculty.
