Abstract:
The author recounts his experience attending an ulpan (Hebrew language training program) at the University of Haifa in Israel, while living with Arab-Israeli roommates, during the beginning of the 2006 war in Lebanon. The author draws a parallel between his experience and that of author Hans Kohn, who left pre-state Israel and the Zionist movement in 1933 because of the conflict between the movement and surrounding Arabs.
