Q | What is PolicyArchive? |
A | PolicyArchive is the nation's first comprehensive, searchable, open access, online archive of public policy research. Our goal is to become the largest repository of public policy research in the world. PolicyArchive offers public policy research across a comprehensive range of subject areas to users around the globe. The Center for Governmental Studies (CGS) built PolicyArchive in partnership with the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library. |
Q | How is PolicyArchive different from other online archives? |
A | PolicyArchive is a free and comprehensive resource that connects users to valuable public policy research from hundreds of research contributors. It compiles and organizes research from all subject areas, perspectives and organizations into one, easy-to-find location. |
Q | What types of organizations submit research on PolicyArchive? |
A | PolicyArchive collects and disseminates research submitted by think tanks, universities, governments, corporations and foundations. Over time, it will grow to include policy content from international organizations and others. |
Q | Is there a fee to view or access publications? |
A | No, there is no membership fee - viewing, reading and downloading publications is free. |
Registration | |
Q | How do I register myself or my organization with PolicyArchive? |
A | Follow the upload instructions, which will walk you through the quick and simple registration process. |
Q | How do I log in? |
A | Click on the "Login" link on the PolicyArchive homepage, and you will be directed to the sign-in page. Simply fill in your e-mail address and password and click the "Sign in" button. |
Q | Can I edit my profile? |
A | Yes, but you must be logged in to do so. At the top, left-hand corner of the page next to where your name appears, click on the "Profile" link. You will be taken to an update page, where you can make your changes. Once finished, click the "Update Profile" button at the bottom of the page. |
Q | How do I retrieve my password if I forget it? |
A | Click on the "Login" link on the PolicyArchive homepage, and you will be directed to the sign-in page. Next to the password field, you will see a link that says "Forgot your password?" Follow the link and you will be instructed on how to change your password. |
Uploading Publications | |
Q | Is there a fee to upload my research? |
A | All uploading is free through the end of 2009. In 2010, there may be a modest upload fee, but we feel that this is well worth the world-wide distribution and archiving in perpetuity within a searchable database that links back to the publishing organization. |
Q | How do I upload a publication? |
A | Please refer to the "Upload Research" section on the homepage and click on the "Learn More" link. |
Q | What types of publications does PolicyArchive accept? |
A | PolicyArchive accepts any document related to public policy research, including books, book reviews, briefs, charts, data sets, fact sheets, newsletters, press releases, previous drafts, reports, speeches, testimonies, surveys, theses/dissertations, videos and white papers that are pertinent to the content of the research. |
Q | What kind of publications does PolicyArchive not accept? |
A | PolicyArchive does not accept research not related to public policy. Editorial pieces, interviews, opinions, marketing brochures/materials and stand-alone reference items not directly associated to a research work by the contributing organization are also not accepted. |
Q | What is the format requirement for uploading a publication? |
A | The preferred file format for uploading documents is Portable Document Format (PDF). For more information about PDF format, refer to Adobe. |
Q | What if my publication does not fit into an existing PolicyArchive topic area? |
A | PolicyArchive uses a hybrid of the Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS) topic index and emerging research areas. Please refer to the list on the homepage for the range of topics. We recommend that you utilize the "Keyword" field and use up to three keywords of your choice to better define your topic area. |
Q | How do I remove a publication that I have already uploaded? |

Distribution/Copyright | |
Q | What is the allowed use of publications that are viewed on PolicyArchive? |
A | Most publications will indicate what the appropriate usage for their content is in a copyright notice within the document. If there is no copyright notice, please contact the contributing organization to find out what they allow. |

A | Most publications will indicate what the appropriate usage for their content is in a copyright notice within the document. If there is no copyright notice, please contact the contributing organization to find out what they allow. |
Q | How do I report misuse or infringement of my publication? |
A | In the case of infringement, please refer to the instructions noted in Section 11 of the Terms and Conditions of Use, and contact Romulo Rivera at rrivera@cgs.org immediately. |
