Abstract:
In Israel Studies 2/2, 172-189. This essay argues that, whereas one can appropriately describe Israel-Jewish society as bi-polar with regard to some issues, and whereas public perception supports the notion of bi-polarity, the two culture theory is misleading. One reason the media and members of the cultural elite persist in this description may be because it serves their own political agenda.
