Abstract:
Utilizing data from OCG II, The Canadian National Mobility Study, and the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics National Mobility Survey, the authors compare patterns of educational achievement and occupational attainment of male immigrants and their offspring in the U.S., Canada and Israel. For all three societies, the second generation is more mobile educationally and occupationally than are the immigrant or third generation populations. However, country of origin effects are far more dramatic for Israel than for Canada or the U.S..
