Abstract:
The article reviews how has the organized American Jewish community responded to groups that have publicly dissented from the official policy of the State of Israel and the consensus of American Jewry's established leadership. The chapter inquires what such responses tell us about the community and its relationship with the State of Israel? Which types of dissent are judged acceptable? What sanctions does the contemporary Jewish community exercise to delegitimize a group? And, what is the relationship between American Jewish and Israeli elites in this process of delegitimation?
