Abstract:
The author, the president of the National Conference of Jewish Charities, faces the charge that the American Jewish community need no longer maintain sectarian aid and charitable agencies. He reviews the history, successes and failures, of Jewish philanthropy in the United States, particularly as regards successive waves of immigration, and identifies goals for the future - the most fundamental being increased solidarity among American Jews despite their diverse backgrounds.
