Abstract:

The author describes the work of the Jewish Home-Finding Society of Chicago, which finds foster homes for children whose mothers, usually due to tuberculosis, cannot care for them. The children and their foster families are closely supervised, and the author suggests that this solution is much better and more nurturing for everybody, childless families as well as homeless children, and that therefore home-finding should be studied and more universally adopted, with institutionalization reserved for delinquent and defective children.
