Abstract:
Vehigadeta Labincho (tell your son)— to tell and transmit knowledge and values from generation to generation—is a key concept in the Jewish tradition and one that has helped ensure Jewish continuity. Transmission is important in understanding family dynamics as well, as seen in this article's examination of survivors of the Holocaust. When family members cannot fulfill the obligation of Vehigadeta, that responsibility must be assumed by the community.
