Abstract:
Current curricular trends in the universities seem to indicate that core values and knowledge, which American Jews regard as vital for their own security and the viability of the larger society, are under attack. It is not that anyone is seriously charging that multiculturalism is itself an anti-Semitic movement. Rather, apprehension over anti-Semitism provides a context for the debate on multiculturalism. Yet pluralistic multiculturalism offers real hope for a society struggling to understand, treat fairly, and build positive relations among its many groups. It is time for an initiative of mutual discussion between the university and groups, such as the Jewish community, which are apprehensive about campus trends.
