Abstract:
Although religious pluralism does not currently exist in Israel, Orthodoxy can coexist with pluralism given the right conditions. The author suggests these keys to change that will further the quest for religious freedom and pluralism in Israel: reform ofthe Israeli political system, recognition of altemative Jewish religious modes, cultivation of a culture of democracy, and lessening the social distance that separates the Orthodox from the non-Orthodox.
