Abstract:
Contrary to the growing public impression that the African-American and Jewish communities no longer share common values and interests, an analysis of voting pattems in the 103rd Congress found that black and Jewish members of Congress are closely allied on basic issues of concem to their communities. This alliance has continued in the first months of the 104th Republican-dominated Congress in which both Jewish and African-American members opposed the items in the Contract with America in much greater percentages than did members of the House overall.
