Abstract:
Reviews a proposal for Washington Voluntary Accounts (WVAs), which offer an easy mechanism for individuals to save for retirement. Addresses the importance of a retirement program for the nearly half of all workers who do not have a retirement savings plan in their workplace. Addresses concerns regarding public costs, portability of accounts, competition from private investment and increased fees for small businesses.
