Abstract:

Although some countries are moving much faster than others, most of Central and Eastern Europe at least is moving steadily ahead with economic refcnm. In particular, most of these countries have achieved considerable success in instituting the macroeconomic measures needed to stabilize their economies: freeing prices on most tradeable goods, balancing the budget, reining in inflation, adopting real interest rates, and moving toward currency convertibility.
