Abstract:
Federal officials must decide which kind of educational environment the American people are subsidizing - one of “authoritative selection†or the “marketplace of ideas.†Each path will have dramatically different effects on the young people spending several formative years of their lives there and, as a result, will have dramatically different results for the nation. America should have a greater commitment to its children than to provide those who can afford it a chance to sue after the damage has been done. America should have an educational environment that is as open and vital as possible.
