Abstract:
In the U.N.'s 40th year, it is time to reevaluate thoroughly the organization's effectiveness and usefulness. The United States, which devotes over $1 billion a year to U.N. programs, owes it to its taxpayers to scrutinize U.N. agencies, programs, conferences, meetings, and publications. Such evaluation must cut through the myths surrounding the U.N. These myths do not serve the true interests of the organization nor the hundreds of millions of the globe's neediest citizens, who have looked to the U.N. in vain to serve their interests during the past four decades.
