Abstract:
The United Nations, say many Americans, has failed to create a more peaceful world. In a 1983 survey, 48.8 percent of those polled indicated they do not believe that the U.N. is effective in furthering the causes of world peace and political stability among nations; only 42.8 percent believe that the U.N. furthers peace. Not only has the U.N. failed to fulfill the lofty hopes of its founders, it has become itself a major cause of global disharmony.
