Independence caught Kazakhstan by surprise in 1991, which made its tenth anniversary worth celebrating. From the Republic’s birth, its leaders have embraced and reaffirmed very high ideals. Kazakhstan has avoided ethnic violence, and laid the foundations for prosperity and economic growth.
