Abstract:
Looks at the implications of the welfare law enacted in 1996 for teenage parents with disabilities. While the welfare law prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, teen parents participating in the program often do not receive the services they need to meet program requirements. Risk factors associated with both teenage pregnancy and disability are analyzed, including lower educational achievement and higher rates of poverty. Recommendations are also provided.
