Abstract:
The Pew Charitable Trusts' Make Voting Work Initiative, partnered with the JEHT Foundation, funded a coordinated effort between election officials in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, and several leading academics in the field to evaluate, assess and experiment with election audit procedures in order to provide recommendations on post-election performance audits. This project resulted in several recommendations for how post-election audit procedures can be implemented for use in upcoming elections in New Mexico as well as across the U.S. The results and recommendations of the study should be a critical component to any state's efforts to strengthen voter confidence in its election administration process by implementing post-election audits.
