Abstract:
A response to Charles Miller's "Jewish Identity and Agency Function" in the Fall 1983 edition of this Journal. The author states that she agrees with Miller's questioning of why the field of Jewish Communal Service has failed to respond significantly to the crisis of Jewish identity and survival. She supports the search for the complex reasons for this phenomenon. But she disagrees with his conclusion of creating a "new concept of function" and a new profession with a sense of "ethnic mission."
