Abstract:
The Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) has collected new data on the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) caseloads through September 2002 for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This is the most current and complete data available. In this most recent quarter (July-September 2002), most states (39) reported a caseload increase. For the nation as a whole, the caseload increased by 0.9 percent in the quarter. This is only the second time since 1994 that caseloads, when summed nationally, have shown a quarterly increase.
A PDF file of the spreadsheet data and a press release are included as supplementary files.
