Abstract:
The author calls for Jewish federations to reclaim their role as "powerhouses in Jewish philanthropy" by defining their purpose and creating ways to measure success. He suggests focusing the General Assembly (the annual conference of the federation movement) on four themes: telling the truth about endowments, retooling the broken federation-agency system, coming to terms with the annual campaign, and administration and function.
