Abstract:

This report demonstrates that the number of Americans who do not identify with a particular religion is growing. Non-identification is associated with several factors including age, being raised in multiple religious traditions, gender, and geography. The authors find that one-quarter of non-identifiers plan to identify with a religion in the future.
