Abstract:
The author argues for encouraging certain groups of non-Jews to convert to Judaism in order to revitalize the Jewish community. He suggests reaching beyond non-Jewish spouses of Jews to encourage conversion in other groups, specifically individuals of Jewish heritage (i.e. those with Jewish fathers or grandparents) and non-Jews seeking religious fulfillment or community. A proactive conversion strategy requires rabbis to be welcoming and supportive rather than discouraging.
