Abstract:
In this book excerpt, the author asserts that many synagogues are no longer welcoming places. This has implications for the future of Judaism, the author contends, because the future of the Jewish community in America is directly connected to the effectiveness of synagogues in transforming the Jewish people. The author discusses the major challenges facing synagogues today, some reasons that most Jews don't enjoy synagogue, and suggests a new kind of thinking about welcoming Jews into religious life.
