Abstract:
The author explores issues which unite and divide Jews in Israel and the United States based on data from several surveys and polls. She asserts that fundamental issues must be resolved in order for Jewish life to survive in the long run. Issues include: the centrality of Israel, aliyah (immigration to Israel), emigration from Israel, anti-semitism, religious pluralism, conflict and consensus. She argues for a new, more realistic approach to resolving these issues and provides suggestions for cooperation between Jews in the United States and Israel.
