Abstract:
The author describes his experience designing Judaic studies curricula for middle- and high school students, and receiving feedback from educators regarding the results. In order to succeed, the author draws lessons from two people named Hirsch: Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, famous for his successful integration of loyalty to tradition with immersion in modernity; and Professor E.D. Hirsch, who teaches the idea of identifying and teaching "core knowlegde" necessary for cultural literacy.
