Abstract:
The author discusses the relationship between the the World Zionist Organization and the Israeli government in the early years of Israeli statehood. He explores the WZO's quest for official political status and the opposition from non-Zionists in the Diaspora as expressed through the American Jewish Committee (AJC). He asserts that the outcome is a successful instance of diaspora pressure on the formation of Israeli public policy.
