Abstract:
The author discusses the problem of prioritizing clients on waiting lists when there are too many cases for staff to handle at one time. He explores possible criteria for determining whom to consider emergencies, and how to provide preliminary "first-aid" treatments at intake that make it less likely that wait-listed clients will refuse services later. The author argues that the Jewish community does not yet recognize the gap between needs and services available in family social services.
