Abstract:
The Jewish Community Center (JCC) field is growing, the author notes, but questions are being raised. Among these are questions of priority: what relative importance should be granted to social work, recreation, social betterment, and other elements? Other questions noted by the author include whether or not to open membership to non-Jews, whether or not to host discussions of controversial issues, how to ensure participation by the neediest in the community, and how to best serve the surrounding neighborhood. The author explores the origins and implications of these questions.
