Abstract:
The author describes the role of caseworkers in assisting parents whose children have been taken temporarily to institutional care facilities in a different city. She outlines common emotional needs at different parts of the process, from intake and separation through reunification. While the time of separation can be extremely difficult, the author also contends that it can present opportunities for growth. She illustrates this with several case examples.
