Abstract:
The author discusses the difficulty faced by social workers in beginning the process of separating children from their natural paretns in preparation for placement. Case workers ought not to be purely child-focused nor purely parent-focused, the author contends, but family-focused. She describes common obstacles and pitfalls to avoid, drawing on her experiences from the Jewish Child Care Association of New York.
