Abstract:

Many elderly people would not choose to retire if it were not mandatory at their companies, the author reports. For many aged Americans, retirement means a substantial reduction in standard of living as well as an overabundance of leisure time. This is why an increasing number of retired people are seeking part-time employment, according to the author. He describes the experience of his agency, Federation Employment and Guidance Service (FEGS) of New York, in assisting elderly people to find part-time work. The author further discusses implications of this trend on clients' health, well-being and families.
