Abstract:
The author argues that advances in professionalism and specialization in the field of social work have not been matched by the field of fundraising. Preparation for a career in fundraising, the author contends, should entail specialized training, professional development and higher education just as social work does. Only then will fundraisers be prepared to "look beyond the dollar" and achieve their full potential as community leaders.
