Abstract:

While the field of social casework has progressed greatly in serving the elderly, the author argues that the particular relationship between adult children and elderly parents is still not adequately understood by the field. He discusses how caseworkers can examine these relationships through a socio-cultural lens, making themselves aware of the cultural climate in which each party (including the case worker herself) has attained maturity, and understanding the implications of these factors on the work at hand.
