Abstract:

The author discusses the unique issues and ideas which should be considered by therapists working in the Orthodox Jewish community. He describes the ways in which Orthodox fidelity to Jewish law and custom affects every aspect of life, and can be woven deeply into interpersonal issues. The author offers an example of a case from his experience practicing family therapy in the Orthodox community of Boro Park, NY, and uses this case to draw out principles which can be applied generally, not only in the Orthodox Jewish community, but also to some degree in other pervasively religious groups.
