Abstract:
The author, a physical education consultant, contends that Jewish community centers ought to reevaluate their uses of competitive sports in order to ascertain how these programs do and do not further the goals of the center. He discusses positive and negative outcomes of competitive sports, as well as educational and administrative factors, and recommends a set of guidelines to ensure that centers create sports programming that maximizes positive outcomes and minimizes negative results.[BREAK] In Journal of Jewish Communal Service, ed. by Sanford Sherman, v.53, no.3, March 1977, p.268-276.
