Abstract:

The authors discuss problems arising in the process of selecting and training young adults to become "facilitating agents" in projects designed to foster personality and cognitive development in young children in culturally disadvantaged neighborhoods in Israel. Major issues, according to the authors, are the ability of the young adults (1) to maintain contact with the children and (2) to act as an adult in dealings with the children and with program staff.
