Abstract:
The author argues that the prevailing attitude today makes community responsibility totally voluntary, says that no one can tell us what to do, that personal privacy and individual rights are the most important values, and that one's own "feelings" take precedence over the needs of others. This has become the popular definition of self in society. It is not a Jewish definition.
