Abstract:

Undergirding the Hornstein Program since its inception have been powerful, organizing ideas—Jewish communal service is a distinct profession, graduate education must socialize students into that profession, and the program itself must be a paradigm of professional practice. To remain on the cutting edge of educating Jewish communal professionals, the Hornstein program must help students understand and deal with rapidly changing conditions, complex and fluid Jewish identities, a global perspective, deepening Jewish content, and the need for ongoing leaming and experimentation by individuals and organizations.
