Abstract:
The author advocates systemic change to boost interest in Jewish education as a career. She suggests recruitment efforts beginning with middle school students; more career development for teachers; the creation of an internship for teachers' first year, which would include reduced teaching load and intense mentoring; funding the pursuit of advanced degrees or rabbinic ordination for working Jewish educators; and rewarding outstanding performance with good pay.
