Abstract:
The author considers the nature and importance of settlements and their role in organized Jewish life. They are not meant only for the poor and the marginalized, but for the entire community to come together to meet and enrich one another. Their structure may not fit directly into the goals and systems of charitable organizations, but they have a unique contribution to make to social welfare.
