Abstract:
The author gives a brief history of the development of the position of professional social worker in the Jewish philanthropic world and an overview of the various tasks incumbent on the social worker in his many roles. In the discussion that follows, Conference delegates critique the lack of a broad general educational program for social workers and the over specialization in the field, and attempt to defend the professional status of the occupation.
