Abstract:

The author shares some of the frustrations of social work and particularly Jewish social work, including the concern that their work amounts only to patchwork and not fundamental change, especially when the Jewish community and its donors seem to see them as mere alms-providers rather than agents of positive social change. He argues that the Jewish social worker should come to see his main task as community betterment through community cooperation, especially taking part in the movements, whether they be charitable, political, or industrial, which will abolish the need for relief work.
