Abstract:

The author first considers what a settlement ought to be - a community center where members can connect with each other, find personal enrichment, and in turn contribute to the welfare and prosperity of both the community and their fellow members. It must be an outgrowth of its community, not imposed from the outside, and thus even if it is a Jewish settlement, it should be non-sectarian. Thus the attitude towards any question should be one that encourages learning and discussion and is open to development according to the particular process and nature of that community.
